Contents
Fe gluconate (equiv to elemental Fe 30 mg) 250 mg, Mn sulfate 200 mcg, Cu sulfate 200 mcg, vit C 50 mg, folic acid 1 mg, vit B12 7.5 mcg, sorbitol 25 mg
Indications/Uses
Fe-deficiency anemia; anemia during pregnancy, growth, convalescence & senility; megaloblastic & macrocytic hyperchromic anemias; alimentary anemia. Prophylaxis against anemia in blood donors.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take during or after meals to minimize the effects of GI irritation.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients receiving repeated blood transfusions or suffering from anemias not caused by Fe deficiency.
Adverse Reactions
GI irritation eg, abdominal pain/cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation; rusty aftertaste (occasionally); pruritus or itchiness, urticaria or hives, difficulty of breathing, chest pain; black stools.
Drug Interactions
Decreased antibiotic action of tetracyclines & quinolones. Decreased absorption of levodopa, levothyroxine, bisphosphonates, methyldopa, penicillamine. Reduced Fe absorption w/ antacids & PPI, some food (eg, tea, coffee, wholegrain cereals, eggs & milk), oral neomycin, Ca, Zn & oral Mg salts, bicarbonates, carbonates, oxalates & phosphates.
